Week 5 – Sir Josy

Knights of the Road – Week 5 (Photovoice submission for Sir Josy)

Non-truckers don’t know much about truckers’ relationships with the trucks. They may be a means to an end (income, benefits) or something more personal (family tradition, freedom of the road) or even something else (a safe/familiar place, a companion, an obligation).

What does the truck, whether it’s yours or not, mean to you?

You see a truck when I see this: a moving hotel room that you’re getting paid to be inside!

When you are in a relationship, the other one has to understand that even if you say otherwise, your truck is your real home. I was lucky enough to share that passion with my husband. People see a normal truck, but when I was in the trucking industry, I kept saying: lets go home. My truck (which wasn’t mine) was my home. When we had that accident, we lost over $10,000 of stock (wallets, food, tv, dvd player, clothes,…).

What I liked the most was the fact that I would never know where I would be.

Being able to visit a lot of places is fun. I had the luck to visit a few cities in the USA just because I had time. Your are being paid to bring something from point A to point B but you can stop when and where you want, as long as it’s not too much of a detour of course. I saw Detroit, Nashville, Laredo, Dallas, Austin, Vegas, Indianapolis, Beaumont TX, Little Rock,…

Waking up and not being at the exact same place, I loved it.

    1. Explain please. I don’t see the prison thing here. At least you move. I rather be behind a wheel than being stock behind a computer all day like I do right now. If I could, I would go back.
