Roadside memorials can be found on roads large and small, urban and rural, all over Canada. They mark the location of a tragic loss. How do you feel about these memorials in general? What feelings or thoughts come to you when you see them?
(Bonus optional question: You may know the circumstances of some of these memorial sites. Is there anything you’d like to say to the people involved in those events?)
I am not sure what to think of the roadside Memorials. For some it is a good reminder of what happened there and they slow down, It makes them think twice about their actions. The other part that worries me are the ones that come back to decorate the site and make it a memorial. Which is great, a way to move on in a way I suppose but it only places their lives in the path of danger, the sad part is that they would do that no matter what. How far do you let the family members decorate them? I have seen them lit up like Christmas trees creating a bigger distraction then they should be. All in all I do have mixed feelings about them, Some times I imagine that there are trapped spirits standing by them because a family member or a participant can’t let go.
